The Difference
The Reading MD’s services have often been compared to tutoring. However, there is a vast difference between the two. While tutors can be helpful in allowing students to keep up with both their homework and their peers, their time is spent teaching strategies that reinforce what has been taught in the classroom. In contrast, The Reading MD uses the Academic Associates® Reading Course to provide students with an expert approach to phonics. Our students are given the building blocks of reading and do not move on until they have mastered each skill by applying those skills to appropriate content, regardless of where they are in their general education classroom. Additionally, The Reading MD focuses on effective phonics skills that can be applied across subjects, as reading is utilized across disciplines. This “back to the basics” method helps to fill in the gaps where there may be a disconnect in the classroom.
